SEO can be a frustrating activity. Yesterday your website was on the first page of Google. You were delighted. Flushed with your SEO prowess, you performed the same search today and found your site was on page two – what went wrong? Has your website been pawed to pieces by a panda or pecked full of holes by a penguin? A fully mobile-optimized website will be easy to read and play smoothly on even the smallest mobile device screens. Images should be able to be easily enlarged and the navigation should be smooth and easy to follow. If you think about it, having a Google Search Console, a Google My Business panel and a G+ account gives your site good representation across a variety of Google’s products, which can’t hurt your discoverability. While the worldwide average is two words per search phrase, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia all show that searchers prefer the use of three- or four-word terms. When it comes to getting your content to the top of the search rankings there’s a number of methods you can employ. But if there’s one constant that runs through them all then that would be the importance of keywords.

Google automatically detects which pages answer the users’ query automatically and then display the top result as a featured snippet at the top of the page. This is Google’s way of trying to help users to quickly find what they want by providing them with a snippet of information directly in the search results. The majority of web traffic is driven by the major search engines like Google, Yahoo! or Bing. Although social media and other types of traffic can route users to your website, the bulk of website traffic is driven by search engines. This statement is true regardless of your website’s purpose. SEO basically works by predicting and guessing how the Google algorithm works (because no one can be completely sure) and then using that information in order to engineer your website to get the maximum number of hits. It means gaming the system and this in turn can allow you to‘trick’ Google into believing that your site should be number one.

Searches coming from a mobile device now outnumber searches on a desktop

We like to use Domain Authority when comparing one site to another or tracking the “strength” of your website over time. Organic search is a powerful channel for getting new customers, but SEO isn’t a one-time investment, and it won’t magically fix your marketing challenges. A popular practice, and thought to be best for SEO, is to include your target keyword as close to the start of the page title as reasonably possible (so that it still makes sense).
